ETHEL’s return to the Williams Center features Philip Glass’s haunting score from the The Hours, Stephen Daldry’s 2002 film of Michael Cunningham’s novel inspired by Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway. The program also includes works by groundbreaking composers of today such as Terry Riley, David Lang, Huang Ruo, and Julia Wolfe.
Praised by The New York Times as “extraordinarily skilled, passionate musicians” and by New Yorker as “vital and brilliant,” ETHEL draws on the incandescent musicianship and artistic vision of its four members, violinists Cornelius Dufallo and Mary Rowell, violist Ralph Ferris, and cellist Dorothy Lawson.
