Looking for a break from studying for finals? Want to bring hope and cheer to children battling cancer during this holiday season? Have you HEARD about DAVID’s Origami Cranes?
After Lafayette College Theater produced the play A Thousand Cranes this September, we donated our 1000 origami cranes folded for the production to David Heard, a 10-year-old College Hill resident suffering from Neuroblastoma, a serious cancer. David decided to try to get together 5000 cranes, one set of 1000 for every hospital where he’s been treated, since a Japanese legend says 1000 cranes can grant a wish. Our original cranes are now at Lehigh Valley Hospital, thanks to David, and when a local newspaper’s story about David’s quest went viral, cranes started pouring in from all over the country! The original goal of 5000 has been met and then some - now David wants to try to get a set of cranes in every pediatric cancer center in the country – that’s 220,000 cranes! Since so many cranes have come to the Heard Family in the last few weeks, they need help stringing and creating crane mobiles for each hospital from the over 10,000 origami cranes they’ve already received. Join David and his family, Lafayette Student Athletes, College Theater students and members of SMAC and Wishmakers for snacks and stringing. Just bring yourself - no prior experience required. The event is free and all ages are welcome.
