The rise of MOOCs -- Massive Open Online Courses -- has brought with it hope, hype, and hyperbole. This talk will focus on facts and experience as a basis for discussion of how best to use these new tools. Our speaker will provide an overview as to how a MOOC is made, how it runs, how it differs from other classes, how one can use MOOCs, and what their long-term impact may be. The overview will center around the speaker's experience in building and running the Coursera class "Calculus: Single Variable", available to view at www.coursera.org/course/calcsing.  Participants from all fields are encouraged to attend and welcome to join in the subsequent comversation.
