Overachievers in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that losing doesn’t necessarily make them losers in this hilarious and unlikely musical about a spelling bee where quirky adolescents can stand out and fit in at the same time. Audience members randomly selected each night compete with the cast as guest spellers vying for the championship of a lifetime. Music and lyrics by William Finn. Directed by Michael O’Neill.
