The Washington Post writes, “An Inti-Illimani concert is a wild ride through Latin music, a whirlwind of Andean folk tunes, tangos from Argentina, Brazilian sambas, and throbbing, sobbing love songs from Mexico.” And the Los Angeles Times adds, “Few Latin American acts can rival the Chilean group in terms of the sheer beauty of sound. Much like a Zen affirmation, Inti-Illimani’s music floats within your soul, filling it with calmness and hope.” During its October United States tour, Inti-Illimani celebrates its 45th anniversary, revisiting earlier bodies of work, while also introducing American audiences to new compositions, fresh arrangements of established repertory, and several new songs more recently created by Chilean poets and lyricists and guest composers. The ensemble commands a large array of instruments from the guitar family, along with flutes and wind instruments of Andean folk origin, and marvelous vocal harmonizations and rhythmic vitality. Their performances are famous for their abundant musical pleasures, their celebrations of cultural identity, and their fervent invocations of humanity, pacifism, and triumph of freedom over oppression.
