DESCRIPTION:Among the most eloquent and loyal of Orpheus’ many guest collab
orators over \nthe years has been pianist Richard Goode\, hailed for music
-making of \ntremendous emotional power\, depth and expressiveness. New Yo
rker critic David \nBlum wrote: “What one remembers most from Goode’s play
ing is not its \nbeauty—exceptional as it is—but his way of coming to grip
s with the \ncomposer’s central thought\, so that a work tends to make sen
se beyond \none’s previous perception of it.” The Toronto Globe and Mail w
rote\, \n“Mr. Goode has so thoroughly entered into the spirit of the compo
sitions he \nperforms that you’d swear the composer himself was at the key
board.”\nLafayette is pleased to have Goode as soloist in Robert Schumann’
s \npassionate A-minor Piano Concerto on this afternoon when we toast Orph
eus’s \n40th anniversary season in a gala post-performance Williams Center
reception.\nTwo splendid symphonies complete the program: Felix Mendelsso
 hn’s joyful \nand dance-filled Symphony No. 4\, called “The Italian\,” and
Aaron \nCopland’s Symphony No. 2\, known also as the “Short” Symphony.
