"Sticks, Hooks, and the Mobius" exhibition curator Susan Huxley conceived a yarn bombing, The Gift That Says I Love You, as a visual symbol of the town/gown relationship between Easton and the college. The colorful afghans will beautify the urban landscape--one the primary goals of the “yarn bombing/knit graffiti” trend.
Knit and crocheted afghans are often given as gifts. Indeed, during the many hours it takes to complete an afghan the stitcher’s thoughts will often be about the recipient as she—and most are made by women—creates a “gift that says I love you.” Some of these gifts become much loved family heirlooms. Others are never used, stored in the back of linen closets and will eventually be found at thrift shops--the source of the forty afghans used here.
