In his presentation, Dr. Mark Graham will discuss the latest information on modern breast cancer diagnosis and therapy. Five subtypes of breast cancer were defined by molecular biology techniques in 2001 and this information transformed treatment strategies. Dr. Graham will review the breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility genes (BRCA1 and 2), modern hormonal therapies, the role of chemotherapy, and new biologic therapies.
He will explain how the treatment approach differs for the various subtypes, and discuss advances to treatment that are significantly extending life for patients with recurrent metastatic disease.
