As the nation continues to engage in difficult conversations about modern era race relations, law enforcement, and violence, the theme of this year's Black Heritage Month programming is Black Bodies, Black Lives. As part of a series of films, we will screen the critically acclaimed 2013 film, Fruitvale Station,  a compelling artistic representation of these and other complex social issues.

This feature-length film is based on the events leading to the death of Oscar Grant III, a young Black male who was killed on New Year's Day in 2009 by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police officer Johannes Mehserle at a subway station in Oakland, California. The film stars Michael B. Jordan and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer. Dinner will be served on a first-come, first-served basis.
