Casting 5 women and 3 men in Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel, Ireland's greatest living dramatist, for a production on the Williams Center's mainstage March 4-7, 2015.

Set in Donegal during the late summer of 1936. this prize-winning play depicts the lives of the five unmarried Mundy sisters as they welcome home their frail older brother who has returned under duress from his life as a missionary priest in an African leper colony. Narrated by Michael, born out of wedlock to one of the Mundy sisters and now an adult, Dancing at Lughnasa is a memory play shaped with humor, longing, and affection. Against the background of the Celtic harvest festival to the ancient god Lugh, Michael recalls the music broadcast on the Mundy sisters' first radio set and the clash of the old and the new that climaxed in a passionate outburst of dancing that is stamped forever on his memory.

Women with experience in Irish step dancing or in dancing of any kind are encouraged to audition.

Men and women with facility in learning accents or who can speak with an Irish accent are encouraged to audition as well.

Perusual scripts may be signed out from Joyce Wallace in the Williams Center Box Office.

The production normally rehearses evenings Monday through Thursday, with some afternoon rehearsals on Fridays and Sundays. Cast may add THTR 120 [Performance Practicum] for .25 credits.

Dancing at Lughnasa is directed by Professor Michael O'Neill and choreographed by Ben Munisteri, Choreographer-in Residence.
