The exhibition Requiem: Ectopistes migratorius, officially opens at 1 p.m.—the centennial of her death and the extinction of the species.

There will be light refreshments, music and readings.

REQUIEM is a multimedia exhibition by visual artist and musician Michael Pestel that commemorates the extinction of North America’s Ectopistes migratorius, the passenger pigeon. A species that once numbered three to five billion birds as late as the 1860s, the passenger pigeon officially became extinct on September 1, 1914, when Martha, the last known pigeon died at the Cincinnati Zoo.
