The Right to Have Rights: International Organizations and Human Rights Protection

Since the adoption of the Human Rights Declaration by the UN in 1948, international organizations have played a major role in spreading of the human rights norm and assuring the observance of this legal norm in countries around the globe. Yet, the international human rights situation is facing major challenges today. The plight of refugees in such different regions as Syria and South Sudan, new policies of border protection, and the rise of challenges stemming from climate change and persons’ displacements raise questions about human rights norms and the spreading of human rights ideas.
